Two hospitals in Jacksonville - Holy Cross and Passavant Area Memorial Hospital - offered schools of nursing beginning in the early 1900s.
Late in the 1920s and early 1930s, Passavant and MacMurray offered a combined degree program
until after the second world war. In 1975 MacMurray began offering classes designed for the nursing students at Passavant's School of Nursing. By this times Holy Cross Hospital
had closed. In 1975, the National League for Nursing and the American Nurses' Association recommended moving nursing education to baccalaureate programs
at institutions of higher education. Passavant and MacMurray reached an agreement to move all nursing
education to MacMurray but until MacMurray could be accredited, the School of Nursing at Passavant would continue. In 1979 after the Committee of Nurse
Examiners of the State of Illinois fully approved of MacMurray's curriculum, eight students enrolled in MacMurray's nursing program. Clinical courses began in
1981.

The collection has minutes of the faculty meetings from 1981-2004. Some of the years include combined curriculum/faculty meetings.
The minutes document the development of the program, the staff members and evolution of the program. The curriculum committee minutes reveal a continuing improvement
to the program to meet the demands of the medical field. The monthly newsletters provide students with information
on semester class schedules, activities of the nursing students and progress of admissions. One folder has indexes to all minutes for the years 1995 to 2002.
